My letter to you
Dear friend,
If you're reading this, something has probably felt off for a while. Maybe life looks fine from the outside, and you can't quite explain why it doesn't feel that way. I want you to know that's one of the most common things people tell me in a first conversation, and it's a good reason to talk.
I was raised in Franklin, Tennessee, and grew up in the restaurant business. That gave me a love of food, wine and the kind of connection that happens around a table. It also taught me early how much people carry while they keep everything running for everyone else.
I earned my master's degree in Professional Counseling from Lipscomb University. My career began at the Helen Ross McNabb Center in Knoxville before I came home to work at Lipscomb and at Mercy Community Healthcare. I'm the past Board Chair of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute, and I'm trained in EMDR and Trauma-Focused CBT.
I see you as the expert on your own life. You're steering the ship, and I'm the first mate who helps you stay the course, untangle what feels off and land where you want to be. I'm direct, and I won't hand you generic advice. People tell me I'm calm and grounded, with a dry sense of humor that makes the hard conversations a little easier.
Being human is hard. Every one of us is carrying something, and bravery is recognizing what that something is.
Healing comes from asking for help. You don't have to figure it all out alone. If any of this sounds right, let's talk. The first 30 minutes are on me.
John
